Probably one of the most successful and famous diagrams is the London Transit Map (Philadelphia may have actually been first?). I think a more effective name for this type of diagram is "information graphics". Though it may not be as accurate as a usual map (by our standards), the information is based on perception and is very easy to read.

Tissue paper to Book paper

My first iterations using tissue paper explored its crease-ability, fragility, and density when it is rolled.

When it came to translating to a larger scale, I went to good will to pick up some old or outdated books. Though most books aren't necessarily headed for the trash bin, many (i.e. textbooks) become useless or obsolete over time, and need a new job.

There are three structural elements in a hardcover book: the cover, the binding, and the pages. I chose to use the pages to create a little reading stool. My next attempts will include the cover and/or binding in an attempt to decrease the mass of the object and possibly create a collapse system.

Consider this fluid.

You have probably all played with cornstarch and water in a plastic bag at some point in your lives, but have you ever mixed it in a concrete mixer then run across it Jesus style? Cornstarch+water mixture is a non-Newtonian fluid, meaning it does not exhibit the regular properties of a fluid when stress is applied. Upon impact, the fluid acts like a solid, and is capable of becoming floor-like. Watch this video and be awed.

This video shows how the "impact" of sound is seen physically through the morphing fluid. What are the architectural possibilities of this intriguing substance? Are there any? Discuss.

Brittany's Dream

1. Brittany dreams she is a mermaid, but she does not like fish, etc. (notice tab at bottom)

2. Brittany finds herself in the city, but she is a giant. However, she appears to be pleased with this.

3. Brittany finds herself surrounded by bats, but she is too big to hide in that scary cave.
